Margaret Lacky, Regional - Best Cameo Performance

Margaret Lacky, Regional - Best Cameo Performance

It has been a busy month here at Old Courthouse Theatre and it certainly shows.  We have been immersed with the 'One Book - One Community - Cabarrus Reads' program as we prepare for this week's opening of Walking Across Egypt.  The cast, crew, and volunteers have been sprucing up all over the building.  If you haven't been to OCT in a while, you will be in for quite a surprise the next time you visit.  Some of the changes are a little subtle, so you may have to look around a bit to find them.  Long time OCT friends will be sure to notice the new paint, flowers, and other improvements we have made.

While OCT was well represented with 12 separate MTA award nominations, the award ceremony turned out to be a bit of a let down, as we were only able to garner one win.  That person was our very lovable Margaret Lackey (pictured), who won in the Regional - Best Cameo Performance category for her role as Veda in last season's Dearly Departed.  The sight of slight Margaret beating on Trent's chest still brings a smile.  Be sure to congratulate Margaret the next time you see her.

We also are still in need of backstage crew for all of the remaining shows this season.   If you are interested in assisting with costuming, set construction, light and sound operations, makeup, or ushering please email us at info@oldcourthousetheatre.org  to get in touch with us.

Phil Taylor to direct Walking Across Egypt

Phil Taylor became involved at OCT in 1991 when he saw an audition notice in the local paper. An electrician by trade and with no formal training in theatre he worked hard enough for the board of directors to give him a chance to direct a one-act play in the downstairs black box theatre. Since then he has directed best play winners: The Boys Next Door & Nuptials. He's also directed last years; Dearly Departed & Rounding Third, plus the off-season special The Glass Menagerie.  Phil has also directed for other area theatres, including one-acts and the popular Greater Tuna

Phil is also an award winning actor, taking home OCT awards for Foxfire, Plaza Suite and others. He also won a Best Supporting Actor award from the Metrolina Theatre Association for his role in Off Tryon Theatre's production of God's Country.  Phil has helped in many aspects of theatre production including; light, sound & set design, running sound & lights, stage managing, building maintenance, even serving on the Board of Directors for the third time. But he has never done costumes. Phil says he knows nothing about clothes. Phil never knew when answering that small ad in the paper it would lead him to two loves. Theatre & the Love of his life, Becky.
