Scapin the Schemer: July 11-15, 2007, Black Box Theatre |
After last summer's
successful run of Tom Jones, James Shafer and Deborah
Stanley return again this year to lead the youth in Moliere's
three-act comedy, Scapin the Schemer.
In their
fathers' absence, Octave has secretly married Hyacinthe
and Léandre has secretly married Zerbinette. But the
fathers return from a trip with marriage plans for their
respective sons. Scapin, after hearing many pleas for
help, comes to their rescue. Thanks to many tricks and
lies, Scapin imagines to gain enough money from the
parents to make sure that the young couples get to stay
married. But, no one knows who Hyacinthe and Zerbinette
really are. Will he figure it out? And will the parents
catch him before his plans come to fruition? Have no
fear, it all ends in the classic "And they lived happily
ever after," and Scapin is even brought to the head of
the table at the ending feast (even though he has to
fake a fatal wound to make it happen).
This show will be $10
and presented in our Black Box Theatre with tickets available at
the door on the day of the performance. All show times are 8:00
pm, except for Sunday which will be 2:30 pm.

Bridge to Terabithia: August 2-5 and 9-12. |
|
Kelly Slussarick, who directed Charlotte's Web in
2006, returns to lead the children in the musical
Bridge to Terabithia. This powerful adaptation,
supported by a lyrical score, focuses on the humor, warmth and
emotional intensity of Katherine Paterson's Newbery Award
winning novel.
Jesse, alienated from the pragmatism of his family and rural
Virginia culture, draws and dreams of becoming something
special. Leslie, the new girl from the city and the ultimate
outsider, opens a world of imagination, art and literature
for him. Together they create Terabithia, a fantasy kingdom
where they are safe from those who don't understand them.
Their friendship grows as Jesse's world expands. When
tragedy strikes, the strength gained in Terabithia takes
Jesse forward on his own and lets him share the magic of his
dreams.
For All Ages. Presented on the
main stage, show dates are August 2-5 and 9-12. All shows are
at 8:00 pm, except for Sundays, which are at 2:30 pm.

Auditions for Into the Woods: August 13-14, 7:00 pm. |
|
An ambivalent Cinderella? A blood-thirsty Little Red Ridinghood?
A Prince Charming with a roving eye? A Witch...who raps? They're
all among the cockeyed characters in Lapine and Sondheim's
fractured fairy tale, as Jim Kidd makes his OCT directing
debut. Many of you will remember Jim from his Best Actor
Award-winning performance as Frank Butler in last year's
Annie Get your Gun.
Auditions will be
Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 13-14, at 7:00 pm.

The Comedy of Errors: August 16-19 and 23-26. |
To end the summer season, the youth move
to the main stage to present Shakespeare's hilarious
The Comedy of Errors.
This show relies
heavily on mix-ups and witty dialogue. The characters
include two sets of twins, Antipholus of Ephesus and
Antipholus of Syracuse and Dromio of Ephesus and Dromio of
Syracuse. Dromio of Ephesus is the slave of Antipholus of
Ephesus, and Dromio of Syracuse is the slave of Antipholus
of Syracuse. Antipholus of Ephesus is unaware that he has a
twin brother, Antipholus of Syracuse. And Dromio of Ephesus
is unaware that he also has a twin brother, Dromio of
Syracuse. Farcical mix-ups occur when all the twins converge
in Ephesus.
August 16-19 and 23-26 on the main
stage, with all shows at 8:00 pm, except for Sundays which are
at 2:30 pm. Call 704-788-2405 to make reservations, or click
